How the Aviation Maintenance Program Finder Works
You don't need to know which school you want yet. Tell the aviation maintenance program finder what kind of work you're after and when you can train, and it does the comparing for you.
You Answer Six Questions
The credential you want, when you can train, where you live, the job you picture, what matters most and anything else worth knowing.
We Compare 204 Schools
The program finder keeps the FAA-approved schools that offer your credential on your schedule, then reads each program's own description against your answers.
You Get Five Matches
Each match shows a match percentage, the cost and graduation rate where the school reports them, and a link to its full profile.

Which Aviation Maintenance Program Fits Your Career Goal?
Every FAA-approved school prepares you for the same FAA mechanic exams. Where schools differ is the aircraft you train on, the employers they work with and the extra subjects they teach.
Airline Mechanic
Airlines hire mechanics who hold the FAA mechanic certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings, known as the A&P. 95 schools in our data show airline or repair station ties, like hiring pathways. Compare them in our airline partnership rankings, then check airline mechanic pay.
Helicopter Mechanic
The same certificate covers helicopters, but only some schools train on them. 34 schools in our data do. Our helicopter mechanic schools ranking lists them, and the helicopter mechanic career guide covers the work itself.
Avionics Technician
Avionics is the electronics side of the hangar: radios, navigation and autopilot systems. 36 schools teach it beyond the basics every program covers. Start with our avionics schools ranking and the avionics technician guide.
Business Jets and General Aviation
If you'd rather work on business jets or small planes than airliners, look for schools that name corporate, charter or general aviation employers. 60 schools in our data do. Tell the program finder in question four and it weighs that for you.
Inspector Later On
An inspection authorization (IA) lets you sign off annual inspections. You'll need to hold your mechanic certificate for 3 years, and have spent the 2 years right before you apply maintaining aircraft. Any school here starts you on that path. Our inspection authorization guide walks through it.
