Degree Types
Two Kinds of Maintenance Bachelor's Programs
Some degrees include the coursework for the FAA mechanic certificate, so you train for the ratings and earn the bachelor's at the same school. Others are completion degrees for working mechanics who already hold the certificate and want management, safety, or leadership courses.
On this list, Kent State University at Kent and Hallmark University require the certificate. If you do not have it yet, start with an FAA-approved (Part 147) school or a program that includes the training.
Methodology
How We Ranked These Degrees
We started with every institution reporting bachelor's awards to IPEDS in CIP 47.0607 to 47.0609 (aircraft maintenance and avionics) or 49.0104 (aviation management and operations). Because 49.0104 also covers flight and airport degrees, a school is listed only when its own website shows a bachelor's in aviation maintenance or maintenance management.
Scores run to 100: graduation rate 40 points, bachelor's awards per year 30 points (log-scaled), and annual in-state tuition 30 points, lower scoring higher. Each factor is scaled across all 46 IPEDS institutions. An input a school does not report earns no points.
IPEDS graduation rates and tuition describe the whole institution, and the awards count covers every bachelor's reported under these codes, not only the maintenance track. Our methodology page explains how IPEDS data is matched and checked.
